Children's Party Invitations: Card with Mittens

Children can be very creative so why not put their creative juices to work in designing their own party invitations? They are actually fun to design and the kids really enjoy the process. Be sure to use lots of colours and different kinds of glue-ons to add texture and drama.
Materials (for 10 invitations)
- 8-10 (8.5 x 11) pieces of coloured construction paper
- Glue stick
- Liquid glue
- Decorative add ons (available at Michael’s crafts)
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Photo (optional)
- Snowflake hole puncher (optional)
- Regular whole punch
- Velcro (available at fabric stores)
I always like a photo of some kind in the party invitation. Digital cameras make taking photos so easy these days. Snap a photo of your child and include it in the card.
If you are planning to use a photo then you will want to design the size of the card around the photo. A regular 4-x6 photo will require a card slightly larger (but not too large so as to still fit a regular greeting card envelope).
Cut your construction paper into the desired size and another contrasting piece to fit on the front with a slight border. Fold both pieces to form the card. Glue the smaller piece on the front of the larger. Write your party information on the inside of the card.
Draw out miniature mittens on another piece of construction paper and whole punch them with the snowflake. Scatter and glue other snowflakes randomly around the front of the card. Inside the card, glue your photo and make two small whole punches on each side of the written part of the invitation.
Cut a piece of ribbon approximately 14″- 16″ long. Insert the ribbon through one whole and around the back of the card and through the other side. Glue each of the mittens to the ends of the ribbon and attach a small piece of (one side) of the velcro. Wrap the ribbons around the front of the card and attach the other piece of velcro. This way the card may be opened and closed easily.
For an added party touch, make you loot bags out of coloured and patterned Chinese take-out food boxes. These boxes are available at craft stores and may be filled with all sorts of miniature items. Tie off with a ribbon and nametags made of alphabet stickers. Apply to the front of the box.
