Before you “deck the halls” this year you may be inspired by some wonderful holiday decorating books.  Every year I venture to discover a new book or two that catches my eye. It can be difficult to source a good reference book that delivers high-impact but low maintenance decorating ideas in a budget-savvy manner.

This year I found a few that offer interesting holiday decorating ideas accompanied by fabulous photos to help you along the way. All are available at

Christmas Ornaments to Make: 101 Sparkling Holiday Trims by Better Homes & Gardens, Carol Field Dahlstom & Susan Baker, is a very user-friendly reference book that offers beautiful ornament ideas in an easy-to-follow manner. A great book for both beginner and expert crafters the layout is clear and concise with step-by-step instructions and patterns to follow. A nice gift idea for a crafter you may have in mind. $8.99

Spirit of The Holidays: Decorating and Gift Project Guide, Shady Oak Press (editor) is 160 pages of a multitude of craft ideas for Christmas, Hanukah and Kwanzaa. A very well photographed book, the visuals are enough to safely guide you through the craft process. Wrapping papers, gift tags and greeting card ideas are just some of the featured items in this book. $13.10

White Christmas: Decorating & Entertaining For the Holiday Season by Tricia Foley is a wonderful book. The theme centers upon a white Christmas with sparkling silvers, crystal and evergreen boughs. Are you looking for decorating ideas a little different from the traditional red and green? Then this book is for you. Foley offers stunning white-on-white holiday decorating ideas that are timeless and beautiful. All white stockings in different sizes hung by the fireplace and simple holiday decorating ideas for the guest bathroom are just two ideas in this 96-page reference book. This one is a little more on the pricey side for $63.82 but well worth it. You may want to keep this one for yourself.

Don’t forget to pick up the latest holiday decorating magazines on grocery store shelves. These magazines are great reference sources for last minute table centerpieces, recipes and gift ideas as well.
