Housewarming Ideas
Published July 20, 2012
Do you know someone who is moving or has recently moved? Relocating a household is not only a lot of hard work but it can be stressful at the best of times. If you don’t have the time to help with the move, why not give a housewarming gift that will be well appreciated and useful to the recipient as well? All you need is a little time to prepare and plan the gift the rest is easy. Here are some ideas that can help you get started.
New Neighbour Bucket
I love this idea for it’s practical use and creativity. Simply purchase a tin or aluminum bucket at your local hardware store that is approximately 10-12 inches in diameter. Make a list of all the household items that you covet in your kitchen on a day-to-day basis. Items such as glue, scissors, tape, rulers, extension cords, hammer, finishing nails and a flashlight are just a few examples of items that every household requires. Add some of your favorite things such as a pocket calculator and a tape measure. Fill the bucket with these items and glue a colourful ribbon around the outside rim. Attach a card with a personal message and your name.
Another twist on this idea is to fill a glass jar or smaller container with one of your favorite recipes and all the ingredients. Place the exact, measured amounts of the listed ingredients in separate Ziploc bags along with the recipe. This way the receipient is able to easily assemble the recipe in a pinch.
Outdoor Planters
This is a nice way to welcome your neighbour and add a little warmth and colour to their front door. Fresh garden plants are always a welcome treat and require only a little watering in the few months of unpacking. You can purchase these planters at your local nursery or assemble yourself.
CD
Who doesn’t appreciate a little music in the background while you are unpacking and moving furniture around? The music is relaxing and so nice to have playing during this busy time. A nice idea is to purchase some of the recipient’s favorite CD choices and some of your own that you think they would enjoy.
Bon Appetit!
I can’t think of anything more appreciated than a warm dinner on moving night. You can be assured that dinner for the kids and family is probably the last thing on their minds. If you can prepare an easy, warm-up dinner for the family simply drop it off around the dinner hour and hear the raves. This is one I guarantee will make you “neighbour of the year”.
