Mom's Nanaimo Bars

1/2 cup butter

1/4 cup sugar

5 tbsp. Cocoa

1 tsp vanilla

1 egg

2 cups Graham Wafer Crumbs

1 cup coconut

1/2 cup Chopped Walnuts

Bird’s Custard Powder

 

Directions

Place softened butter, sugar, cocoa, vanilla and egg in a bowl. Set dish in boiling water (fry pan with pot in it)

Stir well until butter is melted and mixture resembles a thin custard

In another bowl, place Graham wafers and coconut and nuts…blend well

Add custard to mixture

Pack into a 9″ glass, square pan

 

Icing

1/4 cup butter

3 tbsp milk

2 tbsp Custard Powder

2 cups Icing Sugar

 

Cream 1/4 cup butter . In a separate small bowl combine 3 tbsp milk with 2 tbsp of Custard Powder. Add to butter. Blend in 2 cups icing sugar. Spread over chocolate base. Let stand 15 – 30 minutes.

 

Chocolate Layer

Melt 4 squares of semi-sweet chocolate with 1 tbsp butter. Spread over custard Icing. Let set.

Cut into squares.
