Photos to Art
Published July 20, 2012
Every once in awhile I come across a great website that I think is worth sharing. Recently I found a site that allows you to transfer your favorite photos onto an art canvas that you can hang on a wall in your home. This is a wonderful way to blow up a favorite family photo and transform it into canvas artwork.
Art.com is the name of the site and it is extremely user friendly. The site is able to upload your photo from a digital image and the resolution quality from most digital cameras is very compatible with the canvases they use. Scanning your photograph and uploading it can also be done. The image should be scanned at 300dpi resolution for best results and if you do not own a scanner you can still take your photograph to a local copy store and they can scan it for you.
Once the image is uploaded you can choose what kind of effects you would like to have. There are two options: photo realistic and canvas print with brushstrokes. The photo realistic option allows your photograph to be printed directly onto the canvas and thus taking on the texture of the canvas surface. The second option allows the art.com artists to apply brushstrokes to the image and making it look more like a hand painted piece of art.
The company maintains their canvases are of the highest standards using only gallery-quality fabric for their heavyweight canvases. The canvas is wrapped around the sides of the wooden frame and then stapled in the back.
You may choose to have your canvas with or without a frame as well. The site offers five different types of frames for you to choose. Or you can have your canvas without a frame at all. The choice is yours.
I was able to put together a digital photo to art canvas frame in a matter of minutes. These would make great Christmas gifts for family and friends.
