Use leftover old bulbs for this idea if you can.

I was in the hardware store the other day and noticed that a large proportion of outdoor lighting is in the form of miniature lights and a few varieties of the larger bulbs in a “frosted” finish.

You can still find the old-fashioned bulbs in small packages if you wish to hang the more traditional lights. I like the look of the old-fashioned bulbs myself but I have to say the miniature lights do look very pretty in the trees.

If you decide to go the more modern route with the miniature lights you may have a lot of leftover, old bulbs laying around. Before you store them away or decide to give them away, keep a selection of the old bulbs for this decorating idea. It’s a simple idea but very cute when displayed in a pretty, glass vase.

Materials:

20-30 old-fashioned outdoor light bulbs

Selection of glitter (available at craft stores)

Modge Podge or craft glue

Small paintbrush

Clear vase (for display)

Modge podge is an all-in-one glue, sealer and finish that has been popular with crafters for many years. You can find it in craft stores.

Clean your bulbs of any dirt or debris and let them dry completely. Using your small paintbrush carefully apply a thin layer of Modge Podge over the entire bulb excluding the metal section. Sprinkle your glitter over the bulb and let dry. Repeat with the remaining bulbs in a variety of glitter colours.

Once the bulbs are dry, display them in a clear vase or container on your coffee table or somewhere in the home to complement your holiday decor. When grouped together these glittery bulbs add a dose of shine and create a festively funky yuletide setting.

This is also a great craft idea to do with the kids . just keep your dust buster handy.
