Hostess Gift: Cookies in Cello Cones

Published July 19, 2012

It’s not always possible to see everyone over the break so dinner parties in January can be a nice, easy event. If you are planning to visit some friends this month then here’s an idea for a hostess gift.

Clear, cellophane cone bags may be found at craft stores in and around the lower mainland. If you are in a pinch and cannot find one you can simply make one of your own. Fill the bags with some homemade sweets and tie off with a pretty ribbon.

Materials

  • Clear, cellophane cone bags (or alternatively a roll of clear cellophane)
  • Glue and glue gun
  • Clear, scotch tape
  • Tissue paper
  • Ribbon
  • Home baked sweets
  • Gift tag card
  • Tissue paper (crinkled or shredded)

If you cannot source the clear cellophane cones simply cut a piece of cellophane into a 16″ x 16″ square. Fold the square once in half and then again. Cut the top of the folded square in an arc shape. Discard the cut edged piece of cellophane. Make a cone shape out of your folded piece by simply placing your hand through the arc at the top and taping the folds together with clear scotch tape at the sides.

Fill the smallest end of the cellophane cone with shredded tissue paper. Follow this with a handful of sweets. Repeat this layering again.

Finish off the cone with some coordinating ribbon and a gift tag.

Another cute idea for giving homemade sweets is to use colorful Chinese food containers found at Michaels. These little containers are great for brownies, cookies and other sweets as a hostess gift.
