Revival of the Invitation…by Lita Lane

Invitations are making a revival and even in this modern age of convenience and computerization everyone, like generations before, feels slightly jubilant when they receive one. It bestows them the feeling of importance and uniqueness. In the past invitations were generally saved for the “special once in a lifetime” occasions i.e. births and weddings. With the relaxed attitude of this generation we are seeing more and more invitations for birthdays, cocktail or dinner parties, farewell or retirement bashes, baptisms, graduations, engagements, bachelor/bachelorette parties, baby/bridal showers, anniversaries, sports events, Christmas gatherings, house warming’s actually any gathering of family and/or friends can merit an invitation. Invitations are practical in the sense that it provides necessary and useful information to the recipient regarding the impending event. As well, it gives an idea about the theme of the event. And finally, it becomes a keepsake that will remind your guest over the years how much fun they had. Not often, but on occasion and usually due to time constraints, I have sent personalized e-vites. My favorite website is PaperlessPost as they have so many choices and options whereby you can be as creative as you want. But essentially I create my own invitations or use a couple of suppliers that will custom make them for me. Remember the fact that you organized an invitation, addressed an envelope, paid the postage expresses the importance of the occasion and that you really want these people to come to the party. .
